The GTA Swing Band is an 18-member big band based around Toronto, ON. That’s four trumpets, four trombones, five saxes, a rhythm section and a singer! We perform showcase concerts at a variety of events and concert venues. For booking info click here.
This band has been operating for 23 years! Our members are a diverse group, ranging from some of the band’s founders who are now senior citizens, to young musicians fresh out of music school. This year we welcomed Gary Martin as our new conductor. Our featured vocalist Mim Adams is an outstanding singer with a clear-as-a-bell voice that truly evokes the sound of the big band era. We’re so proud to have worked with fabulous band leaders RJ Satchithananthan and Tom Richards in the past, as well as the amazing vocalist June Garber.
In May 2015 we hosted our first Vintage Spectacular Dance event at The Rivoli. Since then we’ve formed a partnership with dance studio Lindy Hop Revolution, and hosted more spectacular dances at the historic Gladstone Hotel Ballroom, and the Great Hall. We’re excited to keep this partnership going with performances at their awesome dance studio.
Some other exciting performances we’ve played recently include a feature concert at Isabel Bader Theatre in Kingston, ON, the Gladstone Hotel’s “Down-town Abbey New Year’s Eve Party”, Fairbank Village BIA’s annual “Light Up the Holidays” outdoor festival, and Knox Church’s dance event in Sutton, ON. From 2012-14 we were a regular feature at Seven44 (the old Chick N’ Deli). In the past we’ve regularly played at SPRINT for Seniors dinner/dance events and Haliburton’s annual fundraiser for the local hospital and hospice. The band has won Best Stage Show Band twice at the Hamilton Convention Centre’s Battle of the Bands, and collaborated twice with Curtain Call Players to present the musical “Sentimental Journey” to raves from critics and sold-out audiences alike. Over its long history the band has played at the historic Palais Royale, the iconic Dunn’s Pavilion (Kee to Bala), Royal York Hotel, the Royal Ontario Museum, Balmy Beach Yacht Club, Ash Bridges Bay Yacht Club, St. Lawrence Hall, the Moonlight Ballroom, the Winchester, the Bamboo Club, and Mr. Slate.
“The enthusiasm of the members and the fun they have when playing are what make the GTA Swing Band truly special – and the audience picks up on that. Like our audiences, this band consists of people of all ages from all walks of life who are bound together by this common interest – swing music.” -Vic Lawrence
“The GTA swing band is an amazing band, and a great opportunity to come out and dance to some of the old big band classics.”
